Born and raised in Metro Detroit, Tenika brings a native understanding and a champion's zeal to her legal practice. She advocates for small businesses, helping them navigate the complexity of business operations and protection.
Tenika is a Michigan attorney and executive legal, compliance, and policy leader with progressive responsibility across commercial transactions, community and economic development, regulatory compliance, investigations, and public policy.
Before founding Griggs Law Group, she served the City of Detroit's Civil Rights, Inclusion & Opportunity Department, rising from Inclusion Analyst to Incentives Compliance Manager to Director of Compliance to Deputy Director. As Deputy Director she directed legal, compliance, operational, and strategic functions for a 35-person department responsible for civil-rights enforcement, workforce and development compliance, and equitable economic opportunity. She advised the Detroit Human Rights Commission, the Mayor's Office, and executive leadership on civil-rights, compliance, policy, governance, and institutional-risk matters; led internal complaint and investigative functions; and drafted Community Benefits and development agreements while overseeing compliance for major publicly supported construction and development projects. She implemented a 60-day case-closeout strategy that produced the department's highest case-closure volume in three years, and designed compliance policies, procedures, and reporting frameworks governing tax-incentivized development, including Brownfield, PA 210, and Neighborhood Enterprise Zone matters.
At Griggs Law Group, she advises businesses, entrepreneurs, individuals, and nonprofits on commercial transactions, contracts, governance, regulatory compliance, entity formation, commercial leasing, and dispute resolution. She drafts, reviews, redlines, and negotiates commercial leases, business and operating agreements, policies, and settlement agreements, and counsels clients on entity formation, governance, policies, and regulatory requirements.
